Many people people wonder why a heterosexual couple would be interested in anal sex when there’s a perfectly good ‘playing ground’ out the front. Well, put simply it’s fun and feels good. But more importantly, for a relationship on the whole, it also builds a new level of trust, communication and intimacy between couples.
So, who’s doing it? A 2011 survey in the USA showed that 40% of men and 35% of women between 25 and 44 had engaged in heterosexual anal sex. In terms of overall numbers of survey respondents, seven times as many women as gay men said that they engaged in anal intercourse. Anal sex is no longer seen as the realm of gay men!
Males and females both experience pleasure from anal sex by stimulation of the anal nerve endings. Orgasm is often achieved through anal penetration – by indirect stimulation of the prostate in men and indirect clitoral or G-spot (and associated sensory nerve endings) in women.
How it’s done
1. First and most importantly, if you find anal sex painful stop what you are doing, relax and evaluate what you are doing. Try again but go slower. Anal sex should be pleasurable, so you are likely to be doing something wrong. However the pain could be due to psychological factors and more discussion may be needed.
2. Go slowly. Make sure you are ‘in the mood’. Spend plenty of time building arousal. If you’re not warmed up it’s going to hurt. Anal sex is not designed for a quickie!
3. Use plenty of lube. And not just any old lube - a quality lube designed for anal use. The butt is not self lubrication and anal lubes are designed to stay in place and last longer than conventional lubes. And don’t be stingy with it...use plenty!
4. Start small and work your way up. It may be a wise idea to begin with small toys designed for anal use before you go ramming a dildo of penis into an unprepared butt. This will have a two fold effect - 1. It will build self confidence in the receiver and 2. anecdotal evidence suggests the slow, gradual stretching of the anus better prepares it to receive bigger things. Important - use only toys designed for anal use as they have a flared base that prevents them from ‘disappearing’ and the subsequent embarrassing visit to the hospital.
5. Communicate - before, during and after. Like all things sexual, communication is vital to successful anal sex. Let your partner know if it’s hurting, if you need to change angles or need more lube. When the show is over and it’s ‘snuggle time’ have a bit of a debrief and talk about how it went for the both of you. Oh and perhaps have a chat before hand about what’s coming up and when your last bowel movement was.

What a brutally honest article! It indeed focus on how to get on with anal sex even if you are a first timer. Lube has always been my focal point on my blog too and never get stingy with it. Just use it. There are some lubes that are solely designed for anal sex pleasure and you can easily get one only now. Keep the good job up.
